Mike's October Visit

Michael and I spent most of the month together on our longest visit to date. The prior record was 10 days. We didn't do a whole lot as far as going out, and I actually had some time to myself while he was napping in the afternoons. As you would know by following the Forum page of my site and the Sermon Summaries that moved off from this page, you will find that Mike has COPD and doesn't sleep well. Plans can change at a moment's notice if he needs to rest. It's not always easy for someone like me who needs to know the plan as far in advance as possible and preferably NOT have it change unless there's a REALLY good reason. But he's totally worth it, and I know that the whole "energy" bit will increase as he's able to lose weight over time, once he gets his benefits. Still praying on that point... All in God's timing...

This is the 2 of us at Rollin's Park, about a mile from my apartment. I convinced Mike that he could make it, as it's pretty much the same distance from his apartment to a friend's house in Brattleboro that he walks to regularly. I had hoped to get him out on other walks to other parks near(ish), but it will have to wait for now.

Looking across Rollin's Park toward the back. You can see a table under a pavillion on the far left. Several years ago, the entire back area of the park was woods. They discovered so much damage that they ended up clear-cutting about 90%. Community meetings landed on the choice to create a walking trail, and more recently, a monarch butterfly "way-station", which is just a bit forward of the pavillion in this image.

Here, we are sitting at the pavillion table and looking toward the gazebo and bridge areas. Other posts here show me sitting by the bridge. There used to be water in the area where the bridge is, but no one is quite sure when it was emptied. That would be to the right beyond the gazebo. There is a pool and playground more to the left.

This was one of my walks alone. I'm at the other major park in the general downtown area of Concord. When I reminded Mike how much "up hill" there was getting to this one, he rejected the idea out of hand (at least for the moment). LOL Even the idea of "stair stepping" it by go up a little and then across 2 or 3 times didn't work. Anyway, this is White's Park. I'm standing near the back of it in this pic. (more "up hill" just within the park) LOL

This view is looking toward the center of the park from the Washington St. side. It's a walking loop called The Green.

Looking at the playground from the rear. They're looking to tear it down in favor of a handicap accessible design over the next year or 2. I remember when they built this in favor of a more modern design in the late 80's. Progress, I guess, right??

Ducks by the pond. That skate house is new in the last 10 yrs or so. You can see the playground in the background.

This is the old Trolley Stop at the same edge of the park as The Green. It was built in 1908 and they've just been restoring the stone work and bench this year.

Side street sunflower near my house... It was on my way either to or from White's.

My big "hunk o' love" goofing around at Bicentennial Square, just a few blocks from my apartment. LOL

The two of us in Bicentennial Square, in front of Margarita's Mexican Restaurant. We didn't eat there this trip, but maybe another time. It used to be the local Police Station as recently as 1974 and at least one of the cells is said to be haunted!! They use the cells as boths now for those who want to sit in them.

The City of Concord Event staff organizes a Halloween Howl on Main St. every year. Participating businesses stay open extra late to hand out candy. I was dressed as a Farm Girl. Mike had me do him up a little, but it wasn't worth taking his pic. He was actually resting on a bench and waiting for me by the time I took these pics.

This shows the full moon behind me. I was standing across the street from the largest historic hotel on Main St., Eagle Hotel. It's mostly just offices now.

Catch you next time, and as always, God Bless!!
